MSI notebooks provide multiple security lock options within BIOS Setup to help protect system data, including BIOS Lock and TCG Lock. This article covers BIOS Lock, which requires a password before BIOS settings can be viewed or changed, adding an extra layer of protection against unauthorized access.

If the BIOS password is lost or forgotten, contact MSI customer support for assistance. Due to information security and user privacy protection considerations, password-related assistance is only provided after the ownership of the device has been verified. Supporting documentation proving legitimate ownership or authorized use of the device is required; if valid proof of ownership cannot be provided, no password handling or unlocking assistance will be offered.
Set up BIOS Lock:
1. Restart the notebook, and press the “Delete” key as soon as the MSI logo appears to enter BIOS Setup.
2. Go to “Security”, and select one of the following password types to set up:
- Administrator Password: Allows viewing and modifying BIOS settings.
- User Password: Allows viewing BIOS settings only, without permission to modify them.
3. Enter and confirm the new password when prompted.
4. Press “F10” to save the settings and restart.
Note: After BIOS Lock is set up, the password must be entered every time before BIOS Setup can be accessed.
Remove BIOS Lock:
1. Restart the notebook, and press the “Delete” key as soon as the MSI logo appears to enter BIOS Setup.
2. Go to “Security”, and select the same password type — Administrator Password or User Password — that was originally set up.
3. Enter the current password.
4. At “Create New Password”, press Enter without typing a new password, and select “Yes” to remove the password.
Note: If the BIOS password has been lost or forgotten, do not attempt to guess or repeatedly bypass it. Contact the nearest MSI repair center for assistance instead.

How do I confirm BIOS Lock has been successfully applied?
After saving the settings and restarting, try entering BIOS Setup again using the same steps. If BIOS Lock was applied successfully, the notebook will prompt for the password before BIOS Setup opens.
