Answer

The WorkloadsSessionHost.exe process is a system component in Windows 11 (Copilot+ PC). It is part of the Windows AI infrastructure (Windows AI Fabric) and is primarily used to support AI features such as Copilot, Recall, Live Captions, semantic search, and image recognition.

When these AI features are enabled or have been used, multiple WorkloadsSessionHost.exe processes may run in the background to preload AI models. This is a built-in Microsoft system mechanism and cannot be manually terminated. As a result, you may observe multiple instances consuming memory with real-time fluctuations.

If you are not currently using these AI features and notice multiple WorkloadsSessionHost.exe processes running in the background, you may follow the steps below to optimize system performance:

1. Disable Windows AI Features

Right-click the Start menu and select Settings > Privacy & Security.

Adjust the following settings:

  • Reset Recall & Snapshots to default by clicking “Reset Recall”

  • Turn off “Click to Do”

2. Disable AI Services via Windows Services

  1. Press Win + R, type services.msc, and press Enter

  2. Locate Windows AI Fabric Service (WSAIFabricSvc)

  3. Right-click and select Properties

  4. Set Startup type to Disabled

  5. Click Stop, then click Apply and OK

After completing the above steps and restarting the system, the number of WorkloadsSessionHost.exe processes will typically be significantly reduced or no longer running, thereby lowering memory usage and improving overall system performance.

Note: If you need to use these AI features again in the future, simply re-enable the corresponding features or services.
