I've connected an external display to my laptop. When pressing [Win] + P keys to switch to the clone mode, my external display just gets blank and shows nothing.

Answer
Pressing [Win] + P invokes the Windows Connecting and Configuring Displays (CCD) API, not the NVIDIA driver. It does not support clone mode across multiple GPUs. When pressing those keys, it will attempt to clone the LVDS with a display connected to the internal Intel GPU, while tuning off other displays connected to the NVIDIA's GPU. Since all video outputs are from NVIDIA GPU, when you press those keys, the display from NVIDIA GPU will be shut off and blank.
