What to do if my computer is making unusual noises?

Most of the noises that computers make come from fans and hard disk drives. If you experience unusual noises coming from the computer, please open up the case and isolate the issue.

HDD Noise

When being compared to solid state drives, hard disk drives are less durable, consume more power, prone to shocks and vibrations, however hard disk drives are priced lower and have less compatibility issues.

When a hard disk drive fails, a continuous "click" sound can often be heard. In addition, the computer may freeze and crash…etc. Please try a different power cable or SATA(data) cable or replace the hard disk drive to isolate whether the root cause of the problem was related to the cables or the hard drive itself.

Fan Noise

It is recommended to use a 4PIN fan. The 3PIN does not support PWM temperature and speed control. If the motherboard BIOS does not support fan voltage or speed adjustment, it will run at full speed after start-up.

Fan Noise

If you use a 4PIN fan, you may adjust its speed according to your personal preference in the BIOS menu:

  • Turn on the computer and press the "Del key" continuously to enter the BIOS menu, then select "HARDWARE MONITOR".
    enter the BIOS menu
  • Here you can manually adjust the desired fan speed in RPM according to the temperature. To revert to the default values, please click on "All Set Default" as shown in the picture below..
    click Download

If you are using a 3PIN fan, please select DC mode if the BIOS supports it. This mode allows you to control the fan speed by adjusting its voltage.

click on the search Ico

If the abnormal noise persists after adjusting the fan speed, please visually inspect the fan to see if there are any foreign objects, dust accumulation, or damages to the fan blades. The aging of the fan bearing may cause abnormal noise. If abnormalities are found, please replace the fan and recheck for the issue if it is addressed.
