There are various reasons why games and applications may crash unexpectedly. Both software and hardware issues can cause such crashes. This article provides troubleshooting directions and possible solutions.
- Hardware Issues
- Driver Issues
- Software & BIOS Issues
- Compatibility Issues
- Virus or Malware
- Verify Game File Integrity
Hardware Issues
1. Check Temperature: Ensure the CPU and GPU temperatures are not too high, as overheating can cause crashes. Use tools like HWMonitor or MSI Afterburner to check temperatures.
2. Memory Check: Use the Windows Memory Diagnostic tool to check for memory issues. The scan time depends on the memory size and usually takes 20-30 minutes. If any anomalies are found, please contact MSI Customer Service Center.
3. Hard Drive Health: Open MSI Center, click on "Features," and select "System Diagnosis" to check the hard drive status. If the hard drive health is poor, it may indicate bad sectors or other issues. Please contact MSI Customer Service Center.
4. Verify Power Connection and Settings: Check the battery icon in the bottom right corner to ensure the notebook is always connected to an external power source during gaming. Right-click the Windows icon, select "Power Options," and set the "Power" to "Best performance."
Driver Issues
1. Update Drivers: Ensure the graphics card driver is updated to the latest version. Please refer to [Notebook] How to Update Drivers.
2. Driver Conflicts: If crashes occur after updating the graphics card or other drivers, try reverting to the previous driver version or performing a clean install.
Software & BIOS Issues
1. Game Updates: Newly released games often have bugs. Ensure the game is updated to the latest version as patches may resolve crash issues.
2. Operating System Updates: Ensure the operating system is updated to the latest version, as some updates may include critical stability fixes. Please refer to [Notebook] How to Update the Windows Operating System?
3. Game Settings: Please adjust game settings (e.g., lower graphics quality, disable effects) to see if it resolves the issue.
4. Disable Overclocking: Excessive overclocking may cause system instability. Open MSI Center, click "Features," select "User Scenario," and click the gear icon next to "Extreme Performance" to set the GPU core frequency to 0MHz.
Note: If your notebook model does not support overclocking, please skip this step.
5. Close Unnecessary Applications: Close any unnecessary applications as they might interfere with game performance.
6. Update BIOS: Please refer to [Notebook] How to update BIOS? to update the BIOS to the latest version and check if the issue is resolved.
Compatibility Issues
Verify if the game or application is compatible with the current operating system version. If not, try running it in compatibility mode (Right-click the game icon → Properties → Compatibility).
Virus or Malware
Use antivirus software to perform a full scan to ensure the system is free of viruses or malware. Please refer to [Notebook] Protecting the Computer in Windows OS: Detecting and Removing Viruses and Malware.
Verify Game File Integrity
On gaming platforms like Steam, verify the integrity of game files to ensure there are no corrupted files.
