Your monitor is the way you truly experience your PC. However, with the multitude of sizes, panel types, features, and specifications available, making an informed choice is more important than ever. You may have to give additional weight to factors like panel type for vibrant colors, size for limited workspaces, and connectivity for your other devices. Understanding these terms before picking a monitor is the first step towards finding the best monitor for you.
Panel Type | TN | VA | IPS |
---|---|---|---|

The panel type specifies the type of panel used in a particular monitor. Each panel has its own distinct set of advantages and disadvantages, so it’s important to pick the right one for your use case. While QD-OLED panels currently offer the most premium media and gaming experience possible, IPS panels are a popular all-around option.
A monitor’s response time indicates the time it takes for a pixel to change from one color to another. While entertainment and media consumption will handle fine even on relatively higher response times, you’ll need monitors with low response times to enjoy gaming sessions that aren’t ruined by motion blur.
Monitors in MSI’s vast lineup feature a broad range of resolutions, going from Full HD (1080p) all the way up to 4K! If you mostly play competitive games, a 1080p(FHD) or 1440p(QHD) resolution would be ideal. However, if you lean towards single-player titles set in vast virtual worlds or love watching movies and shows, a 1440p ultrawide or 4K resolution would be the perfect pick!
When it comes to gaming, especially online multiplayer games, responsiveness is everything. A monitor’s refresh rate dictates how fast the content on your screen refreshes, which translates to much smoother gameplay and better enemy tracking across your screen. Competitive gamers can benefit from refresh rates as high as 360Hz, while more casual or single-player gamers will love the fluidity of a 144Hz refresh rate monitor.
Connectivity refers to the ports and connection-related features on your monitor and dictates what you can and cannot connect to your brand-new display. Make sure you know what input ports you need and look into connectivity features like a built-in KVM switch that will make your life easier.

Quantum Dot technology uses Quantum Dots, or tiny semiconductor crystals, to produce the red, green, and blue light needed to display an image on your monitor. This technology allows MSI to fine-tune colors to such a degree that you can enjoy more vibrant, accurate colors for a stunning gaming and viewing experience.
Modern consoles like the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X require HDMI 2.1 ports to deliver both high resolutions and high frame rates. Monitors with HDMI 2.1 inputs will not only be ready to leverage the full power of these consoles (up to 4K @ 120FPS) right away, but they’ll also be prepared for next-generation graphics cards and laptops that’ll support this newer display standard.
Since consoles like the Sony PlayStation 5 don’t natively
support a QHD (1440p) resolution, connecting them to a QHD
monitor means you’re stuck with a lower resolution (only
Full HD) output when using a regular QHD monitor. Console
Mode allows select MSI monitors to accept a full 4K HDR
signal from your console, which is then displayed at a QHD
or 1440p resolution.
